Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will I need a Car?

A: During the period of the council, most venues are in walking distance from the Westin Hotel. Also, small buses will be available for those who may need or prefer to ride. While the Westin has adequate parking (after all, it is on top of a shopping center), hotel parking is expensive.

Q: What about the Dine-Around?

A: Many of the restaurants are in the French Quarter, not far from the Westin, so it would be a short cab ride or pleasant walk to return to the Westin. The evening will start from the National World War II Museum where mini-buses and taxis will be available to get you to the restaurant.

Q: When do I choose a restaurant for the Dine Around?

A: This will be done at registration. If there is a group you would like to get together, do so (but a maximum of 6 or 8 at a table) and let us know. We are limited in the number of reservations at each restaurant, so it is first come. Remember, all reservations must be held with a credit card, and this can be done at registration.

Q: How do I get to the airport after the St. Francisville Extension?

A: Upon return from St. Francisville, the bus will make a stop at Louis Armstrong International Airport (MSY) at or before 2:30 PM before continuing to the Westin Hotel in Downtown New Orleans.

Q: What if I want to spend another night or two in New Orleans?

A: The Westin has promised that the special rate of $159 will be available for early arrivals as well as late departures. Be sure to make those arrangements when you call the Westin for your reservation. (Westin Hotel 504-566-7006). This rate cannot be guaranteed after April 9, 2012.

Q: What kind of weather can I expect?

A: History suggests that the temperature should be quite comfortable with an average high of 79 and an average low of 66. Rain is always a possibility, so an umbrella or raincoat might come in handy. Most of rain comes in brief showers so, often, you can wait them out. Summer suits and coats rather than tweeds are the thing at this time of year.
